When I was growing up I heard numerous examples of people bragging about how much money they made or how many women they slept with. Everyone it seemed had a big mouth and love to brag and brag.
I admit that I started to look up to these individuals and believed what they said.
Boy was I wrong for believing them. The truth ALWAYS eventually comes out in the end.
We all have qualities that should be emulated and copied by other people. No matter if you are male or female you should strive to possess these six qualities.
We all hear stories and have heard of famous people who are the embodiment of these human attributes. Whether or not you want to copy the habits of people before you is not the point.
You should do it for…
No other reason has to be given. These qualities will improve your quality of life, give you more confidence and other people will take notice and look at you in a more positive light.
Honesty — Nobody likes a person who lies to them. They will not trust you, lend you any helping hand or believe anything you say ever again. Being honest shows maturity, self-acceptance and you will attract other hones people into your life. Everyone lies including myself but the rewards for telling the truth are much greater than lying. In the age of false information spreading all over the Internet be the beacon of truth.
“You should not honor men more than truth.” -Plato
Humility — Be humble in everything you do. You will earn more respect this way than if you went around bragging all day. People genuinely dislike others who do nothing but boast all the time. The humblest person in the universe was Gandhi. He got millions of people to follow him and listen to his word.
“Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real.” -Thomas Merton
Persistence — This one is perhaps the one I believe will provide you the most reward. The ability to keep going in the face of an ever doubting atmosphere. People will tell you to quit after you have failed a time or two. You will even have doubts about your mission yourself. Many great people have pushed through the negative chatter or hurtful criticisms. Napoleon Hill in Thing and Grow Rich tells a great story about a man who came three feet from gold while digging during the gold-rush days. The man purchased the needed machinery to bring the gold ore to the surface. They drilled down into the earth a number of times but came up empty every single time. After a while, frustration set in and they decided to QUIT. He decided to sell the equipment to a junk man who hired an engineer to help him and found the gold three feet from where the first gentleman stopped looking. Always persist.
Determination — You can tell a determined person by the fierce, unwavering look in their eyes. They have a different aura and way about them that other people find jealousy in. They will stop at nothing to accomplish what they set out to. Every decision they make focuses on the determined goal. If doing something helps their cause they do it. If not, they do not think twice about doing it.
“Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.” — Og Mandino
Not caring what others think — This is one of the qualities that I possess. I was never one to care what or how other people thought of me. Many great people have created inventions not giving a crap what others thought of what they were doing. At the end of the day who gives a damn what they think anyway. They are very jealous and desperately want you to care about their opinion. If you care what others think you will spend the majority of your time figuring out how to change their opinion of you.
“You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish. I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be. It’s their mistake, not my failing.” -Richard P. Feynman
Be selfless — People alwayslove being around those who are generous, giving human beings. True selflessness is acting without thinking about how we will profit or benefit. Your relationships will improve when you act from your heart and soul with no ulterior motive. Practicing this will bring you happiness and contentment.
“Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life’s deepest joy: true fulfillment.” Tony Robbins
Nobody is perfect and we all have flaws and things we deal with all the time. Life throws us many challenges and obstacles to overcome.
I see so many people in my daily life past and present who do not adhere to these qualities they get burned every single time.
Granted I am far from perfect and try to practice these all of the time. But I am human let everyone else and have an occasional slip-up.
I do the best I can following these simple qualities daily. Will you join me?
