Walking in early morning fog and rain

Crossing stone bridge with kindred spirit,

We stop midway seeing creek below

Torrential water skims its banks.

Brown leaves swirl aimlessly in torrents

Having left trees where they once thrived,

Trees tower high above raging waters

Lower branches green, upper reds and yellows.

Season’s changes visible along this creek

Moving with powerful coursing torrents,

Oblivious to nature’s autumn changes

Always flowing at own rhythmic pace.

Changes ebb deeply within myself

Seeing where my thoughts have been,

Creative thoughts in their endless flow

Seemingly from ethers of present time.

Thoughts, bridges from past to future,

Stone bridge a link across this creek

Provides sure passage to other side,

Present rests between past and future.

Nature’s miracles awe every moment

When seasons change trees and creeks,

Thoughts swirl like old brown leaves

Never sure where they will lead.

Walking back across stone bridge

Knowing how the seasons change,

Feeling deep within my being

Changes coming to my soul.
