Cries keep coming from deep within
Cries caused by distant hurts and pains,
The dissonant cries of a little boy
Torn asunder in puzzling confusion.

This little boy desperately seeking truths
Truths of who he is, and should become,
Truths of what is right, and what is wrong,
In his life and the world all around him.

Hearing disparate advice from adult elders,
Feeling differently within his own spirit,
Intuitively knowing all people the same
No matter their races, colors or creeds.

Wondering why others don’t understand
Always trying hard to feel so superior,
Knowing human dignity never comes
Labeling people to be different from us.

That little boy is anguished with tears
Seeing his friends abuse other friends,
Calling them many unmentionable names
Only because they are different from them.

As this little boy grows older in years
Allowing his world to widen and extend,
He sees cruelty and evil taking place
By people who look the same as him.

Anguished cries and tears always present
Sometimes conscious, sometimes hidden,
Cries of desperately wanting to know
Who that little boy should really become?

As discovery eventually emerged from within
Deep understanding became confident and true,
Knowing his values are his, and his alone,
Determined the path he has chosen to take.
