“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”
I live in an area surrounded by mountains. Of the over 10,000 days of my life so far, I’ve observed the majesty and dominion of these mountains most of those days.
I’ve hiked these mountains, camped on them, and run marathons and half marathons down the canyons between them.
It’s only been recently that I have realized the many important life lessons we can learn from mountains.
Depression, work, parenting, and life are all like mountains. Everything we experience, and nearly every day that we live, is full of difficulties that seem as large as mountains.
We want, above all, to move these mountains so that we can find success and happiness.
We can move mountains only by moving ourselves up and over them.
Nobody else is going to move the mountain of your depression. Or your debt. Or your difficulties with your loved ones.
It’s got to be you.
And you can’t wait for someone to come and do it for you, either. Take accountability, then take action.
You are not responsible for everything bad in your life, but you are the only one who has the power to get yourself out.
How will you do it? One step at a time.
You just have to take that first step. Don’t think about the mountain you have to scale. Just imagine that one step. And then another. And on and on until you are at the top of whatever your mountain is.
More importantly, why will you do it?
Think about all the good in the world. It didn’t get there by chance.
Great things happen in the world, and in our daily lives, when we intentionally decide that we want to make it happen, then move diligently forward to go get it.
Great things come when people choose to create them. When they choose to climb their mountains and claim success and happiness for themselves and others around them. Without that choice, nothing great would happen in the world.
Do you see that there is a world of endless possibilities that is just ahead of you if you will admit that you are the only one with the power to guarantee your success?
You can move mountains.
You just have to start by moving yourself first.
