What could be better than the comfort of knowing that you have an insurance policy that is always going to work for you regardless of the direness of any situation?
I mean, an insurance policy that requires no application, enrollment eligibility questions or credit checks to have a guaranteed hundred percent access to?
That is what prayer does for me.
I use prayer as my insurance policy and continue to use it even as I type these words to you.
You know how we get to apply for any form of insurance-life, health or car and how we have to go through some(times) lengthy or burdensome application process in order to get enrolled?
Well, the good thing is that you do not need to go through any of that process to use prayers in the exact same way.
But, like most insurance policies where you need to keep it active by paying monthly premiums, to ensure that your prayer insurance policy continues to remain active, you also need to “pay” some premiums. And I would explain how.
However, before I go on to shed more light on how we get to “pay” our prayer premiums, I have one question to ask. What do you think could happen when we default on our car, health or another form of insurance premium payments? They get terminated, canceled or exponentially increased, right?
That is surprisingly the most significant difference between prayers and all those other insurance programs we are part of. Unlike those ‘demanding’ insurance companies that come after your sanity when you default in their payments, the principle of prayer doesn’t operate that way.
Your prayer insurance policy doesn’t get deactivated just because you defaulted on some “payments.” It continues to stay active.
However, in order to get the full benefits of the prayer insurance policy, you must know how to use it effectively. And here is a glimpse at how.
Being a Christian for most of my adult life, I continue to grow in my faith as well as my understanding of some Scriptural truths. And that means I have come to understand how to use prayer as my insurance policy and see it work miracles in my life.
So many times, I see some Christians (and even non-Christians) only remember to pray when they are faced with difficult situations. Some of us only remember to run to the One who loves us with an everlasting love when we feel like there is no other place to turn to.
Some of us try to use prayers as a form of last resort, instead of treating it like an insurance policy that becomes automatically activated when we need it the most.
This is life, and sometimes we may find ourselves caught in the world’s problems or challenges. An example is when we suddenly fall ill and are handed a dire diagnosis. At such times, due to the complexity surrounding the circumstance and other logistical concerns, it may become difficult to even say a word of prayer.
But, if you are the type of person who has consistently maintained a prayer routine, your storage of prayers would undoubtedly serve you well in such circumstances.
Your prayers would help you navigate through such difficult times with courage and strength.
What do I mean by that?
When you are too weak, tired or frustrated to pray, your prayers which have been banked in your policy would show up and give you the hope and grace that you need to walk through that horrendous situation.
Waiting till you are in trouble before you activate your prayer policy is not the best way to use your insurance at all. We should learn to cultivate a habit of praying All. The. Time! Then, when troubles show up uninvited, your policy would automatically get activated.
But, I would like to add a caveat to this because I know that God is a merciful God. In Psalms 46, the Bible records that God is a present help in our time of need. So, regardless of whether we decide to cultivate the habit of building a prayer policy or not, He would undoubtedly show up when we call upon Him. Because He remains a loving Father. Ever trustworthy and always dependable.
But why wait till you are in trouble before you remember to run to your Father and ask for His help?
For me, living above the trials, tribulations, and challenges that this world has to offer has only been possible through the effective use of my prayer policy. Many times, I pray weeks, months or even years in advance of whatever I am trusting God for.
That way, when the time actually comes to make use of my policy, I just go back and draw from my bank of prayers.
This approach has been very instrumental in ensuring that I continue to live a victorious Christian life. And regardless of how events show up or turn out, I am always confident that my Father would work everything out together for my good (Romans 8:28)!
