For my whole life, I have always had a dog (or two). They have been my constant companions throughout many ups and downs. And they have each had unique personalities that have greatly blessed my life.

I love dogs.

I can’t help it.

Here are my top 3 reasons why having a dog is the best.

1. Dogs love unconditionally.
My dogs will love me no matter what happens. They love me when it rains, and they love me when I’m having a bad day. They never ask for anything from me (besides food, maybe). When I come home from being somewhere, they act like it is the first time they have ever seen me. They are wonderful companions, who love no matter what. It is an unconditional love like no other.

2. Dogs listen.
I can talk about anything with my dogs. They listen very carefully most of the time, head cocked to one side, ears attentive, just listening. It doesn’t matter what I talk about. My dogs have always, and will always listen to me. They always have time for me. They never ignore me, or act like I am inconveniencing them. They don’t have other things to do. They aren’t in a rush to get somewhere. They just listen, and they enjoy it.

3. Dogs don’t judge.
They don’t care about the content of what I say. They don’t care if I talk about the weather, or how I might feel. They don’t judge what I say, they just listen because they love. They don’t roll their eyes in disgust when I talk about the deepest darkest parts of myself. They don’t mind listening to me vent about things in my life. They don’t care if I am happy, or sad. They don’t gossip to other people what I have told them. They don’t judge anything I say.

I have always loved dogs.

There is just something about their quiet, dignified nature that resonates with me. Their soft, warm eyes always seeking me out. Their attentive ears always willing to listen.

And I appreciate all of the love I have received from the dogs I have had the privilege to have in my life.

Do you love dogs? Or not? Let me know in the comments below.

These are our pups.
The grey and white is Raven, and the red and white is Apollo.
They were both rescued from shelters.
Raven is a 4 year old female and Apollo is a 1 year old male.
We sure love them.
