We always want something better.
“The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise.”
― Maya Angelou
We Always Want More
As human beings, it is natural for us to always want more.
We want to earn more money, go on nicer vacations, eat higher-quality food, wear fancier clothes, have a more prestigious career, etc.
The list is endless. We always want bigger and better things. It’s part of the American dream right?
But when is enough finally enough?
When are we ever going to be satisfied with the point we have reached in our lives?
Or will we never be satisfied?
Trust me when I say that I am all for wanting more and earning more. I believe in living a high-quality life and I am a firm believer that if you set your mind to something, you can achieve your wildest dreams.
Ambition Is A Double-Edged Sword
But often times, ambition is a double-edged sword. My ambition was a large culprit in numerous friendships and relationships of mine deteriorating over the years. I was busy chasing after bigger and better things and during these points in my life, I didn’t place enough value on the people in my life.
At different points in my life, I also allowed my health to nosedive while I was busy chasing after my lofty goals.
Ambition is a powerful thing but it can destroy you if you don’t learn how to control it.
I challenge you to be mindful of the people in your life. I challenge you to continue to focus on your relationships while you are proceeding on your ambitious path.
Don’t forget to take some time to be grateful for all the things you do have, chances are that you are better off than millions of people around the world.
Enjoy Your Journey
And make sure you are actually enjoying your journey. Achieving all your goals is rather pointless if you aren’t even having any fun along the way.
Never sacrifice your relationships or your health.
It’s not worth it.
The grass is always greener on the other side — until it’s not.
