Don’t just read the pages, BE the pages.
Do you remember the first moment you checked out the self-help section in a bookstore? Do you remember how crazy you were thinking about buying every book on the shelf after a really good one? Do you remember the first time you felt so excited to share this enlightenment with family and friends?
I remember there was a day when I was working at a hotel and I asked my manager did he ever read “Think and grow rich” and he told me he did. Shocked, I then said “omg! you did? what else did you read?” I was a kid in a candy store looking for the closest candy dealer to upsell me more.
He just looked over at me and said “Norkis, I don’t read all those books. It makes no sense to read more and more of the same exact information… you just need to apply it.”
I was frozen. I think my heart even broke a little. He almost shattered all my momentum to keep reading and searching.
All though I disagree that you should stop reading the books just because you think they all say the same thing… I also can agree with apart of that statement.
Some people can go above and beyond to buy these books… read them or shelf them and even bring them up in every conversation but they make no changes in their behavior or life. Sounds familiar?
If you think just READING the book will help you shape your whole life I’m here to tell you… that’s FALSE. Just reading isn’t enough. It’s a great start… it will help you ask more “why’s” about the most regular things and then hopefully give you a new standard to live by. And as you work on it every day your actions will soon change… then your habits change… then guess what: you change.
BUT not without the work.
Not without apologizing to your mom for not speaking to her for months at a time because she told you-you were a selfish person… because plot twist: you are.
Not without cutting off those friends who bring drama or gossip into your life because either they don’t know any better or they don’t want you to be better… either way… you have to break ties and grow up.
Not without getting so tired of crying or complaining about everything. Both of those actions don’t SOLVE the problem so a new tactic has to be added: take some action! So you start waking up earlier, going out less, even hitting the gym.
The process is ugly… the books make it sound amazing but to go out there and try out this information is not easy.
So why are you reading? Why are you spending so much time doing research to just sit on your back about it? Who are you to think you deserve the best life ever when your too lazy to show up for yourself?
Are you still listening to the doubters? Are you afraid of failure? Are you afraid of success? Are you afraid of having to be pushed out our comfort zone?
Let’s start today by pushing ourselves to try out everything we read, question every fear we have, and crush every task we are asked to do. You will only get stronger… I promise.
