Everyone says “balance” is the key: I disagree

Lately I have come to understand balance. At least I have come again to understand balance. I knew it before — but forgot it.

And I don’t think I need it.

After two months of heavy study of God’s Word, and art to go with it, I needed a break. I knew I had to come to centre again. I didn’t need a break from God — but I needed to get back to studying 1 verse a week and looking at it closely.

My life doesn’t have to be balanced but I do need to keep my centre on Jesus to keep me going and remind me when to slow down.

I use the SIMPLE Method of Bible Study because I want to go deeper but also want to keep it easy. You can download my free PDF of this study here.

I like to look carefully at one scripture.

This week in my Facebook group we have looked at the word “hope”. The one scripture we focused on was Romans 15:13.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

I had to look up the word HOPE in the dictionary.

  • to cherish a desire with anticipation : to want something to happen or be true

  • to desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment

  • to expect with confidence : TRUST

If we look at the biblical meaning it is confident expectation. We know it will happen. There is no uncertainty.

And our hope is in Jesus. And eternal life.

This means that our lives grow closer to God as we hope in Jesus. We are filled with this hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

That really excites me.

It takes away fear. It makes me bold. It encourages me to try new things. It pushes me forward. It is a driving force.

And I guess you could say it balances my life.

Yes, with Jesus as my focus my life is centred. No matter where I go, what I do, who I meet, I can be at peace. Even when I overdo, I can rest in Him and be sure He will strengthen me.

Jesus is the Fulcrum.

How do I keep going?

Centring on Jesus is how, as a grandma, I can run a VBS (Vacation Bible School) in the summer time. A few years I have been very sick. But I haven’t missed a day. God just kept giving me strength to work with the children. And He assisted me with loving, kind and faithful helpers.

It’s how I find time to write and paint.

It’s why I don’t ‘burn out’ or get discouraged. He truly is my strength.

Yes, Jesus is my hope. He is my strength. He is my comforter. He is my balance as well.

I am joining Five Minute Friday to take a few minutes to write by thoughts on balance.

May I pray for you and me?

Lord Jesus, You are our hope. Thank you for this wonderful time of year where the whole world can see You and come to You. Thank You for the internet where we can spread your hope, peace, joy and love. Help us to think of others and not ourselves. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
